Engage students with hands-on learning experiences as they complete a range of different fieldwork activities. Students collect qualitative and quantitative data in a provided fieldwork booklet at two sites in the Royal Botanic Gardens at Cranbourne. Collected data is discussed in the context of waterway health and can be taken back to school for further analysis and discussion. A self-guided activity is also available for groups exploring the Gardens before or after their booked program time.
Students will
Complete an invertebrate survey of waterways
Test the pH and turbidity of waterways
Draw field sketches to highlight important features of waterways
Compare data collected from two different sites to make judgements about waterway health
