Plant Features: Adaptations to Habitats

Description :

Explore the amazing adaptations of plants by observing unique physical characteristics that enable them to survive in various habitats. Students will observe the anatomy of a flower and the structure of leaves to help understand their evolutionary purpose and what they need to survive and thrive.

Students will:

  • Use microscopes to observe plant structures
  • Observe plant features that enable them to survive in various habitats
  • Go on a discovery walk

Key focuses:

  • Plant adaptations, structure, function and evolution
  • Why different plants grow and change in different habitats
  • What plants need to thrive

Curriculum links:

  • Levels 5 and 6
    • Habitats can be described by their physical conditions; changing the physical conditions of a habitat, including by human activity, may affect the growth and survival of organisms VC2S6U01
    • Organisms have evolved over time, as seen in fossils and scientific records; the structural features and behaviours of living organisms enable them to thrive in their environments VC2S6U02
    • Investigable questions and reasoned predictions can be used in guiding investigations to identify patterns and test relationships VC2S6I01
